Is Pep Guardiola finally having the effect we all expected?

Manchester City's ruthless 6-0 demolition of Watford on Saturday was a sight to behold, with City moving to the summit of the Premier League and becoming nailed-on favourites in the mind of most fans.

The victory at Vicarage road was impressive not only because of the scoreline, but because of how easy the game appeared to be for the 'Citizens'.

Despite their margin of victory, City barely seemed to get out of second gear, but were simply too good for their opponents, who loooked mismatched against their illustrious rivals.

Critics would argue that there were hints of this quality of football from City last season, but they eventually fell away and almost missed out on Champions League qualification.

This season, having spent £200m on reinforcements, including plugging last season's weak spot in goal, City look set to launch a genuine title challenge and if this week's 4-0 victory over Feyenoord was anything to go by, they may have their sights on European glory too.

In the last week, City have scored 15 goals in three games, conceding none in the process. They mean business this term.

People may point to the opposition but those results have come against Liverpool, a team fancied by many to challenge for the Premier League title this season, Watford, an established Premier League side with a strong home record and Feyenoord, the reigning Dutch champions and a Champions League side.

Converting Kevin De Bruyne into a central midfielder would have seemed crazy just 12 months ago but Guardiola has successfully done so, with the Belgian once again running the show on Saturday.

This was no fluke result, it could quite feasibly have been nine or ten nil and Watford fans will readily admit that City were simply on a different planet.

This is what people expected of Pep Guardiola when he moved to the Premier League, but can he keep producing performances like this as the season goes on?
