If you can't sign Iniesta... just buy the club that does
The group that owns Manchester City have reportedly made an attempt to buy Chongqing Lifan, the club that looks likeliest to secure the signing of Barcelona star Andres Iniesta.
City reportedly made a tentative approach to guage Iniesta's interest in playing under Pep Guardiola once again on a year-long deal, only to be knocked back as the legendary playmaker seeks a fresh challenge.
Despite that, City's owners still tried again in a different way. Interestingly, the group is attempting to purchase a Chinese Super League side and having seen an approach to buy Shanghai Shenhua rejected, they opened talks over a move for Chongqing Lifan.
According to various Chinese sources, the City Football Group is looking for ways to expand its reach in Asia, with various options under consideration. Should a move to Chongqing prove successful, Iniesta and Guardiola could end up under the same umbrella once again, albeit thousands of miles apart.
