Eddie Howe is adamant that Jermain Defoe will not leave the club this summer, after he was linked to a loan move to Nottingham Forrest.

The striker joined the 'Cherries' at the beginning of last season, 17 years after he was sent on loan to the south coast as a teenager, and made 24 appearances last season in the Premier League.

However, he has only managed to make one apperance in the team's first three games of the season, as Callum Wilson and Josh King have become the prefered striking partnership for Eddie Howe.

After a comfortable 3-0 League Cup victory over MK Dons on Tuesday night, in which Defoe started but did not score, the Bournemouth manager outlined why the veteran striker would not be leaving the club.

"I’m not going to let anyone go, our squad is our squad. We’re not huge on numbers, and we also have a couple of injuries at the moment." Howe said to reporters.

"Jermain’s a valued member of our squad, we only carry four strikers so there’s absolutely no chance of him going anywhere."
