Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola gave an injury update on defender John Stones, insisting that the 23-year-old will recover in time for the World Cup with England.

Stones has been sidelined with an abductor injury since playing in both of England's international friendlies at the end of March.

However, with just four games left in the league with City and the World Cup fast-approaching, Guardiola is still optimistic that the centre-back can regain his fitness in time.

"He's injured. He has a problem in the abductors and is not playing with the team," said Guardiola, after his side's 5-0 win over Swansea.

"It's getting better," he added when asked if Stones will play again this season. "So hopefully he can play the last games and can reach the World Cup."

England national team manager Gareth Southgate doesn't have to submit his finalised squad for the tournament until early June.
