After Gary Neville said that Manchester City do not give chances to young players City boss Pep Guardiola has had his say.

The Spaniard did not seem impressed by Neville's criticism and insisted that City were working to bring more young players through the ranks.

"Which is the right club? It's a question to Gary Neville," said the Spaniard.

Guardiola said that his policy is very much 'if you're good enough, you're old enough'.

"My history is there. I'm not going to put young players in the squad because they are young. They will be in the squad because they have quality. I don't have problems with that," explained the former Barca boss.

"The club is working well in terms of the academy. There are many players with good prospects for the future."

"We will be patient with those guys. They are going to train with us most, or part of, the season."

The row started after Phil Foden shone on his City debut against Manchester United last week and Guardiola reserved some special praise for the youngster. "Phil Foden is going to play in the next games. He has quality to play in that team," the 46-year-old enthused.

"I'm so happy to have him. He's a Mancunian, a City fan, a humble guy. He's a fighter. He looks skinny but he's a strong guy."

Could this be the start of an ongoing feud between the pair? It would certainly spice up Sky Sports' live coverage if that were to be the case.
