Yes, you did read that correctly. Salford City goalkeeper Max Crocombe received one of the most bizarre red cards in football history on Saturday as he was given his marching order for 'watering the plants' behind his goal.

The match between Salford City and Bradford Park Avenue in the sixthtier of English football descended into farce late on as the stopper was dismissed for an off the ball incident.

Both sides were initially at a loss to explain the dismissal, but it later emerged that the player had been sent off for urinating behind the goal.

The impressive thing was that the ball was in play when the 24-year-old answered the call of nature.

Bradford PA confirmed the reason for the sending off on Twitter, saying: 'We can confirm that Crocombe has been sent off for urinating during the game. We are not joking.'

Despite the setback, Salford held out to win 2-1 to maintain second place in the National League North with a game in hand.

Maybe lay off the half-time orange juice next time eh Max?
