Andre-Pierre Gignac suffered an ordeal in the Sky Cup match between Tigres and Santos Laguna. The veteran striker was hit in the back of the neck in the closing stages. The French player was unable to continue and was rushed to hospital.

Tigres and Santos Laguna faced at the Estadio Universitario in Mexico. Felix Torres cleared a ball that Andre-Pierre Gignac tried to dodge by turning his head, but it hit him in the back of the neck and caused a second-degree neck injury.

Gignac fell to the ground and tried to get back to his feet after medical assistance, but the blow caused him to retch and vomit. As a result, the player fainted and was substituted.

The striker was quickly taken to hospital for "precautionary tests", as Tigres coach Diego Cocca confirmed after the match, which ended 1-1.

"He went for tests as a precaution, especially because it was a ball. He felt like he wanted to vomit on the bench and it worried us all, but these are normal symptoms," the manager said.
