Nemanja Matic, former Manchester United player, is in negotiations with Italian club Sassuolo to continue his career in Serie A.
The 37-year-old Serbian midfielder became a free agent after terminating his contract with Olympique Lyon on the eve of the start of Ligue 1, just 18 months after joining the French team. This means that the footballer can sign as a free agent in the current summer transfer window.
According to Sky Sports in Italy, Sassuolo has begun talks with Matic's entourage to add him to its squad following its recent promotion to the top flight of Italian football.
The Serbian midfielder's representative has held positive meetings with coach Fabio Grosso and executive director Giovanni Carnevali over the past week.
If the deal goes through, Matic would return to Serie A just two years after wearing the Roma shirt under Jose Mourinho. During his time at the Roman club, the midfielder made 50 official appearances and left a good impression in the Italian league.
