FIFA have confirmed that an investigation into Premier League side Manchester City is 'ongoing'.

The reason for the investigation is at this point unclear, with City claiming to be unaware of any such investigation and with FIFA reluctant to comment further on the matter.

A FIFA spokesperson said on Thursday: "We can confirm that an investigation is ongoing, however, please note that we cannot provide any details concerning the matters under investigation."

Football's governing body recently cleared the 'Citizens' of any wrongdoing over the signing of Benjamin Garre from Argentinian side Velez Sarsfield last season but it is thought that the case still remain active.

Velez appealed FIFA's decision to the CAS (Court of Abritration for Sport) but no verdict has yet been given, despite a hearing being scheduled for July.

City are no strangers to wrongdoing and investigations, as they are currently banned from signing academy players from English clubs after breaching Premier League youth developments rules by making illegal approaches for two players.
