Third-placed Feyenoord's clash with VVV-Venlo was abandoned after less than a minute following floodlight failure at De Kuip on Sunday.

The Dutch side had to embarrassingly abandon their match due to floodlight failure.

The lights went off in the first minute of the game and club staff were unable to restore power, prompting the abandonment.

Despite supporters' best efforts to illuminate the stadium with the flashlight with their phones, the game was abandoned after a 30-minute delay trying to fix the problem.

Stadium director Jan van Merwijk told 'Fox Sports': "We are terribly sorry, this is the biggest nightmare for a stadium director. The problem is localised but has not been fixed.

"It was somewhere in the circuit, in the control to get the lights on and off. So, it was not in the power supply, there is a back-up for that.

"This is very annoying for all the people who have come. We are disappointed, let us be clear about that. We simply could not solve it."
