Empoli return to Serie A after two years away
The Italians have returned to the top flight with two matches to spare after thrashing Nuova Cosenza 4-0. They will also be champions of Serie B.
Empoli sealed their place back in the top flight after just two seasons in Serie B. The team from Central Italy, who have been bouncing between Serie A and Serie B in recent years, sealed promotion after winning and other opponents lost.
With two games remaining, Alessio Dionisi's men thumped Nuovo Cosenza 4-0 on matchday 36 thanks to goal from Mancuso, La Mantia (2) and Bajrami. Mancuso has been one of Empoli's key players this campaign with 20 goals.
The club had been the most solid team in Serie B by some difference. They have only lost two matches and one of them was a 2-0 defeat to Ascoli on matchday 35.
They have also been solid in defence as they have conceded just 32 goals. Empoli are also the top scorers with 66 goals.
