The Ghanaian midfielder Sulley Muntari left the pitch mid-match in form of protest after racist chants were directed at him from the stands.

The Pescara midfielder protested vigorously at the referee, pleading the match to be interrupted in the 90th minute due to the racist insults coming from the stands. With the referee unwilling to listen to his complaints, even showing him a yellow card, the player decided to walk off the pitch.

In the match Cagliari were winning 1-0 at the Sant'Elia stadium, the veteran midfielder lost his calm and left the field, leaving his team with ten men.

It is not the first time an incident like this occurrs at this stadium: in 2010, the Cagliari-Inter fixture was stopped for a few minutes after Samuel Eto'o suffered racist insults directed at him from the crowd.
