He made his debut as a World Cup player, but Ousmane Dembele failed to shine in France's victory against Australia. The French striker was not up to the task and was more of a hindrance than a help until he was substituted in the second half.

The 21-year-old featured in the starting lineup alongside Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe, but posed no real threat to the Socceroos. Both he and his two attacking partners were somewhat absent on the pitch.

Dembele continuously tried to impose himself, but instead highlighted the lack of depth amongst 'Les Bleus'. Didier Deschamps' side struggled to take advantage of the space when the game opened up.

The French forward also produced some fairly poor statistics. He could only hit 71 per cent for his passing accuracy, a figure that reflects the disconnect that was seen between the strikers and midfielders.

Dembele was eventually subbed off in the 69th minute, with Deschamps opting to make a double change. Griezmann and Dembele were replaced by Nabil Fekir and Olivier Giroud.

With France's next fixture against Peru on the 21st June, it remains to be seen whether Dembele will retain his spot in the starting lineup.
