Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne has admitted that he expects to be beaten to the PFA Player of the Year award by Liverpool's Mohamed Salah.

The pair have been the Premier League's standout players this season, with De Bruyne excelling as City's playmaker and Salah plundering 30 league goals.

De Bruyne and Salah head the six-man shortlist for the gong, with David Silva, Leroy Sane, David de Gea and Harry Kane also in the running, though with players unable to vote for their own team-mates, De Bruyne was effectively forced to vote for his biggest rival.

The Belgian had previously said that he feels he has done enough to win the award, but speaking to 'NBC Sports', he admits that Salah is "probably going to win" and adding that he fully deserves it.

"I think if you can choose nobody from our team, I think he deserves it," De Bruyne said.

"Probably he's going to win it anyway. He's been remarkable and to compete with someone that's scored that many goals, you're not going to win.

"I'm very satisfied with my performance this year, with the team."

Fianlly, De Bruyne revealed who would have got his vote if he had been able to select a team-mate, saying: "For me, I think if I could vote personally, I would vote for David [Silva]. The situation he had this year with his little son and always been away, no training, and performed the way he did, it's been incredible.

"But if Salah gets it, he deserves it as well."
