Pep Guardiola refused to comment on Kevin de Bruyne's future at Man City, insisting that it's a situation that solely involves the club and the player. The Belgian playmaker's contract expires in June 2025, and with no news of a potential renewal, it seems like he could be headed towards the exit door after spending a decade at the Eithad.
Asked whether De Bruyne will stay with the Sky Blues for the upcoming season, Guardiola said: "It's between the club and Kevin and his agent... It's a question for the club and Kevin. Listen, you have to understand, in the position that we are, I am concerned about the team and what is going to happen to finish the season as best as possible," he said.
"The individual situations, every manager, staff and backroom staff, players - not even one second! We have to, everybody, think about what is the best for the club, for the team, to achieve the targets that are still ahead of us with the FA Cup, Premier League, and World Cup," he added, explaining that he is focused on the crucial end to the season coming up for his side.
As things stand, De Bruyne is set to become a free agent this summer, meaning he would be free to negotiate with any club. The 33-year-old midfielder has been previously linked to a move to the Saudi Pro League, with the MLS also coming up as a viable option, as teams from either league could lure him with a lucrative offer.
Manchester City are fighting for a Champions League spot as they sit one point away from Chelsea in fourth. But before getting back to league action, the reigning Premier League champions will pay a visit to the Vitality Stadium to face Bournemouth in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Sunday afternoon.
