Manchester United's coach, Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer, explained why Cristiano didn't play in the EFL Cup, and reinforced that decision despite West Ham's defeat.

Manchester United said goodbye to the EFL Cup and all eyes were on Solskjaer as he left Cristiano Ronaldo out. Without the Portuguese superstar, the 'Red Devils' lost their spark and ended up paying with a defeat.

West Ham advanced after Lanzini scored the only goal of the game. After the final whistle, the Norwegian coach was asked about Ronaldo's absence.

"Cristiano arrived and changed everything, but the season is really long", said Solskjaer as he wants Cristiano to stay in form until the end of the season.

Solskjaer said that Ronaldo "always wants to play" but that it is impossible as the season has many games left to be played.
