According to reports in the US, the United States FA have started talks with other side who missed out on the World Cup in Russia about holding a separate tournament next summer.

That means the likes of Italy, who failed to qualify for the World Cup for the first time in 60 years, Holland and Chile could still participate in an international tournament in 2018, with talks already ongoing, according to the 'Daily Mail'.

On Tuesday reports in the US put forward the idea of the tournament, and the US Soccer Federation has confirmed that it is exploring the concept.

The 'Stars and Stripes' suprisingly missed out on the World Cup after losing 2-1 at Trinidad and Tobago last month, and the idea picked up steam when countries like Chile, Holland and Italy, who would all expect to be taking part in Russia, were also eliminated.

Both Italy and Holland will be keen to play competitive fixtures during the summer as they hope to improve on their disappointing failures in qualification.

The same goes for the United States and Chile, with the latter particularly looking for better performances ahead of the Copa America in 2019.

However, one issue with a potential 'World Cup' of sorts, would be whether FIFA is willing to let other nations host exhibition games whilst the real World Cup is taking place.
