Chelsea to face Manchester United in opening Premier League round

Chelsea will travel to Old Trafford on what is surely the tie of the Premier League opening round, with the two English giants due to face each other at Old Trafford on Sunday 11 August.

The Premier League fixtures have been announced for next season and the opening round begins in just under two months. There is one heavyweight tie on the Sunday afternoon, with Manchester United hosting Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday 11 August.

The opening tie of next season's Premier League will see Champions League winners Liverpool host newly promoted Norwich at Anfield on Friday 9 August.

Champions Manchester City open up their season against West Ham United at the London stadium in the early kick off on the saturday, with Pep Guardiola's men looking to go for a third consecutive title following this season's previously unprecedented domestic treble.

The 3 O'clock kick offs on the opening Saturday see Bournemouth host newly promoted Sheffield United, whilst Burnley will be looking to get off to a better start than last season as they host Southampton at Turf Moor. Crystal Palace open up their account with a home match against Everton, whilst Leicester City host Wolverhampton Wanderers. Watford will be looking to continue on from last season, as they begin the new campaign with the visit of Brighton to Vicarage Road.

Champions League runners up, Tottenham Hotspur host Championship Play-off winners Aston Villa in the late kick off on Saturday, with the newly promoted side facing the daunting task of the visit to Tottenham's impressive new stadium.

Sunday sees two big matches as Newcastle United host Arsenal at St James' Park in the lunch time kick off on Sunday, before the tie of the round begins, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Manchester United hosting Chelsea at Old Trafford in the early evening kick off.
