Uruguay took the lead early on in the World Cup knockout stages against Portugal, thanks to their impeccable pairing of Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani.

The last 16 fixture did not take long to produce the first goal. The high-intensity clash cracked open the scoring as Uruguay pushed 1-0 up in the just the seventh minute.

Uruguay's deadly attacking duo joined forces as Cavani struck a crossfield pass to Suarez on the left, before the striker whipped a high ball to the far post, and Cavani finished it off with a header to the top right.

It was a goal that sent the Uruguayan fans wild, and stirred up some trouble for the Portuguese side, as both teams are fighting to secure a quarter-finals spot.

Interestingly, both Suarez and Cavani have scored at World Cups in 2010, 2014 and 2018, and the pair were born in the same town of Salto, just three weeks apart in 1987. A perfect match for the Uruguay team.
