Reports in Brazil claim that Santos fans were locked inside their Vila Belmiro stadium in the wake of their Copa Libertadores elimination.

Ecuadorian side Barcelona emerged 1-0 winners in the game, which, coupled with the 1-1 draw in Ecuador last week saw them advance to the next round.

Jonatan Alvez scored the all-important for the visitors after 68 minutes before being sent off just two minutes later as Barcelona ended the game with nine men.

Santos' elimination caused violent clashes outside the ground.

Local media reports claimed that as fans fought outside the stadium, the police took the decision to lock the gates to the stadium with the rest of the fans inside in order to stop more people getting involved.

The fans were locked in for around twenty minutes whilst the situation was brought under control.

Video footage showed the clashes outside the ground, with new outlet 'Globo' also reporting that angry Santos fans had tried to make their way to the dressing room to make their anger clear to their own players.
