Could Beckham and Ronaldo be reunited in Miami? RealMadrid

Backham is still wiating to be given the go ahead for his Miami-based side to join the American League though that is expected to be granted soon.

MLS commissioner Don Garber says that Beckham is closing in on the permissions needed to launch his franchise after a long wait.

'The delays have been frustrating but this is my 18th year, I’ve learned you have to be smart, cautiously optimistic, not wide eyed and not overly optimistic,' said Garber.

'Getting it right in Miami is way more important than getting it done quickly. It’s getting close, getting to the finish line.'

Garber will be part owner of Beckham's club and he blieves that the former England captain will be an excellent owner.

'I’m a big believer that just because you are a professional athlete doesn’t mean you don’t have the capabilities to be a good sports team owner. It’ s actually the other way round,' said Garber.

'Coming up with the game and understanding the intricacies of it, I think a guy like David would be a fantastic owner.

'He's a very bright guy, very committed to our country and our league. Very committed to the city of Miami. I think we can get things closed then it will be a great success and it will be great to have him as an owner.'

As is the norm, Beckham's side will be looking for a global star to join their ranks and it is thought that the former Real Madrid, AC Milan and Manchester United man has set his sights on Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo.

Reports in England claim that Beckham wants the 32-year-old to be the face of his new franchise as he looks to turn the MLS into one of the top leagues in world football.

Ronaldo is under contract with Real Madrid until 2021, when he will turn 36. Meaning that it could be the perfect time for the star to say his farewells at the Bernabeu and take up one final challenge.

Can Beckham convince Ronaldo that his future lies in the USA?
