Lucas Hernandez has already undergone surgery on his right knee after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in France's opening match after missing out on the World Cup in Qatar. He will now begin a long and tedious recovery in which he will be able to count on the support of Bayern Munich.

Lucas Hernandez's World Cup 2022 dream was shattered in the opening match against Australia when the 26-year-old suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, forcing him to miss the rest of the tournament.

After a successful surgery, the Bayern Munich player is now beginning a long and tedious recovery period that will keep him on the sidelines for the next few months.

The former Atletico Madrid player is a blow not only for the French national team. Bayern will not be able to count on the French centre-back for the rest of the season either, despite the fact that he was having a sensational start to the season: he scored one goal and provided one assist in eleven official matches, ten as a starter.

But despite the injury, the German club still have faith in their player, as Hasan Salihamidzic, the club's sporting director, said in a statement: "Of course we are all shocked and very sorry. But Lucas is a fighter and will come back strong. Firstly, a replacement would probably be very expensive and, secondly, there is nothing on the market".

According to 'BILD', Bayern are planning to keep Lucas Hernandez until he recovers and extend his contract beyond 2024 - his current deal - early despite the tough injury.
