Bayern Munich have announced through their official channels that Lucas Hernandez, who suffered a ruptured cruciate ligament in his right knee, has undergone successful surgery and will begin rehabilitation in the coming days.

Following a sudden injury in the France-Australia match, France's medical services announced that Lucas Hernandez had ruptured the cruciate ligament in his right knee.

After leaving the 'Les Bleus' training camp, the defender underwent surgery in Austria and Bayern publicly announced that everything went well and that the player will start rehabilitation in Munich in the coming days.

"Lucas Hernandez underwent a successful operation in Innsbruck on Thursday evening after rupturing the cruciate ligament in his right knee. The FC Bayern defender will begin his rehabilitation in Munich in the coming days. Lucas suffered the injury in France's first World Cup match against Australia (4-1)," read the statement. 

Lucas now has a long journey ahead of him as he tries to return to the pitch. It is estimated that he will be out for between seven and nine months.
