There was a bizarre incident during Scotland's victory over Armenia in the matchday two Nations League clash. After Scotland scored a third goal, which was disallowed for offside, Arman Hovhannisyan threw a bottle at the assistant referee in anger. The player did not even get a yellow card.
Sometimes football brings emotions to the fore, especially when you are getting beaten. That is what happened to Arman Hovhannisyan just before half-time in Armenia's game with Scotland. Scotland won the match 2-0 and they could have won by more goals.
In the 45th minute, McKenna, who had scored for his team five minutes earlier, got the third. Hovhannisyan was angry and he picked up a bottle which was lying next to the goal and threw it furiously at the assistant. He was angry because he thought it was offside.
And he was right. After the VAR reviewed the goal, the on-field referee disallowed the goal for offside. In fact, as the officials were focussing on the offside, Hovhannisyan's act was missed by all the officials and he did not even see a yellow card.
It is not the first time a footballer throws something at an official during a game. One of the most well known cases was Arda Turan when he was playing for Atletico Madrid. On that occasion, the player used his own boot as a weapon and the assistant referee got out of the way. The Turk saw a yellow card.
