Nigeria international Ola Aina scored his first goal for Nottingham Forest at the weekend to set up a 2-0 home victory over Aston Villa and end a six-match winless run.
Ghanaians Jeffrey Schlupp and Mohamed Kudus were the other African scorers in the Premier League. Schlupp put Crystal Palace ahead in a 2-0 win at Burnley, but a superb Kudus goal was in vain as West Ham United fell 3-2 at Brentford. Here, AFP Sport highlights African headline-makers in the major European leagues:
OLA AINA (Nottingham Forest)
Defender Aina, 27, opened the scoring for Forest in their impressive 2-0 win against in-form Aston Villa, side-footing home.
MOHAMMED KUDUS (West Ham Utd)
Ghana's attacking midfielder Kudus scored West Ham's first goal in their defeat at Brentford. The 23-year-old produced an outstanding acrobatic strike for his second Premier League goal to level the scores at 1-1.
JEFFREY SCHLUPP (Crystal Palace)
Ghana midfielder Schlupp, 30, scored his first goal of the season in a win for Crystal Palace at Burnley, slotting home after a cross from fellow Ghana international Jordan Ayew.
OMAR MARMOUSH (Eintracht Frankfurt)
Egypt striker Marmoush scored a brace for the second week in a row in Frankfurt's comfortable 3-0 Bundesliga win over crisis-hit Union Berlin. Just six days after his two goals at home to Borussia Dortmund, Marmoush scored twice in the opening 15 minutes to put Frankfurt on their way to a fifth win in six games. Having found the bottom corner with a superb finish just minutes into the game, Marmoush then converted an easy tap-in to give Frankfurt an early two-goal lead.
SILAS KATOMPA MVUMPA (Stuttgart)
Democratic Republic of Congo striker Silas missed a penalty in Stuttgart's 2-0 derby defeat to Heidenheim. After teammate Deniz Undav had missed from the spot against Hoffenheim the previous week, Silas took over the penalty responsibilities when Waldemar Anton was fouled in the second half. Yet the striker had no more luck than Undav, sending his spot kick sailing over the bar.
