Real Madrid are close to confirming their first signing of the 2021/22 season, as transfer market specialist Fabrizio Romano reports that David Alaba has already signed his contract. The still Bayern Munich player will leave Germany when this season ends on 30th June, after which he will then become a Real Madrid player - if they the club can make it official just before.
The Austrian has finally chosen Madrid despite the plethora of teams that came calling for his signature. For Madrid, signing a player with Alaba's experience on a free transfer is an absolute steal that can't be missed in today's market.
The aforementioned source informed that Alaba has signed the first part of the contract, but he is yet to stamp all the necessary documentation to make his move official. The defender will earn 12 million euros a year at the Spanish side - a high price to ensure the Austrian would sign for 'Los Blancos'.
For their part, the signing of Alaba will open a new debate within Real Madrid. Sergio Ramos is yet to renew his contract with the club, and the arrival of the Austrian could trigger the departure of the club captain. In this manner, if Alaba's arrival coincides with the potential exit of Ramos, Real Madrid will be left with Alaba, Militao, Varane and Nacho as their first team centre-backs for next season.
