The situation regarding Manuel Akanji at Borussia Dortmund is a complicated one. His future at the club is unclear, and the arrival of Niklas Sule to the team this summer could force him out of German territory.
In the last few days, clubs such as Man United have registered their interest in the 26 year old centre-back whose contract expires in summer 2023.
Because of this, the German club are wanting to come to an agreement regarding the extension of the Swiss international´s contract and to ensure he continues playing at Dortmund. However, the player´s demands are making it difficult for the two sides of the negotiation to come to an agreement.
Apparently, according to 'The Sun', Akanji has notified the club that he will only keep playing for them if the renewal of his contract includes a salary increase. But he is not asking for any old pay rise. Akanji wants to double his salary.
According to the British tabloid, Dortmund have already countered his demands through offering a salary increase from 5 to 8 million euros, but the ex Basel player has dug his heels in and will only settle for 10 million.
