On May 30th the eyes of the world were looking towards the Wanda Metropolitano, where the days before the great final UCL final had been held. Meanwhile, in the modest Polish Lublin Arena, an unknown boy was scoring nine goals in the same match. It was not a merit chapter in the Guinness Book of Records, but it was the birth of a star.
Nobody knew anything about him that day. There was even some doubt as to whether his last name was Haaland or Haland. Even the TV station that owned the rights to the U-20 World Cup called him Elgin, instead of Erling. But his nine goals against Honduras marked a before and after.

Now there are more and more reports about the Norwegian, he is one of the most sought-after talents on the web and Youtube. And all because he's been taking bigger and bigger steps. So much so that just one year later the numbers are still his greatest asset: he has scored 41 goals after 38 official matches.
He has since gone through three different dressing rooms: Salzburg, Norway and Borussia Dortmund, his current team, but no one doubts that he will make another move to the big leagues. Like Madrid, who is dying to sign him.
Haaland continued his exploits at Salzburg. There he piled up 22 more games on this stretch. His 28 goals and five assists in 1,829 minutes catapulted him into the agendas of all the big names. But Dortmund moved more vividly.
The pandemic's halt has prevented him from making his legend bigger in these 365 matches. Yet in his 14 matches as a Dortmund player, he has scored 13 goals and given two assists after 1,031 minutes.
More than one goal on average in each competition
There are two issues that Erling Haaland is always aware of in numerical terms: he tends to have very high shooting success rates, and his averages are usually above the per-match average. He has proved this in every competition.
He has played 25 Bundesliga games (in Austria and Germany) since 30 May. 26 goals and two assists have allowed him to maintain his momentum.
He has also scored five goals, including a hat trick, in three cup qualifiers.
But the most striking thing has been his tremendous breakthrough in the Champions, which threatens to break legendary records. For now, 10 goals and one assist in eight games mark his resume. Moreover, he alone came close to taking on a whole PSG.
With the exception of those two matches against Norway, only Haaland and Lewandowski have managed to exceed 30 goals. What's more, they both have a record of 41 goals in 36 official club matches, which is a huge achievement. But there is no doubt that there is much more to come from the 19-year-old Norwegian.
What's more, it was something that went unnoticed at the time, but his assessment after those nine goals was premonitory. "I would have liked to have scored a double-digit number, but it was nine and I'm satisfied," he said.
