Premier League sides averaged almost nine changes from their previous line-ups for the games, though the changes paid off in most cases as four of the five Premier League V Championship ties were won by the top flight outfit, albeit with Arsenal and Manchester City only just edging past Norwich and Wolves respectively.
Arsene Wenger was the biggest 'tinkerman' of them all, making 11 changes from the team that beat Everton on Sunday and handing starts to the likes of Matt Macey and Mathieu Debuchy.
Patrick Van Aanholt was the only survivor from the weekend for Crystal Palace, whilst even Championship sides Middlesbrough and Leeds made ten changes apiece.
Manchester United were the least-changed Premier League side and even they made seven changes.
It only goes to show how the League Cup has become so devalued in recent years. For many fans, watching their side win a trophy is something that stays with them forever and the thought that the apathy towards the League Cup has seeped into the lower tiers will no doubt concern fans greatly.
