There has been strong suspicions that the collapse of David De Gea's move had something to do with Ed Woodward's internet alter-ego.
While in reality, Woodward is a very savvy businessman who has orchestrated a number of extraodinary deals during his time at United. However his alter-ego is a slick, pulls-no-punches rebel who would troll a legendary club like Real Madrid just for the fun of it.
Jose Luis Sanchez - a reporter for the famous 'El Chiringuito TV' - after hearing the news that the deal had fallen through also argued that United had sent the documents late to claim a moral victory.
So many questions still remain unanswered: Could this all be revenge? Or was it genuine human error? Is the deal still going to take place?
We take a look at some of the best Twitter responses that have aimed to poke fun at the whole situation.

On one hand, it’s great that United have kept De Gea and sends out a symbolic victory for them that they’ve kept their star player.

If Real Madrid miss out on De Gea, will Benitez's anti-United speech this time be "I want to talk about FAX" ?

Above all, I feel bad for De Gea. He'll be forced to renovate his contract if he doesn't want to stay half a season in the stands.

The arrogance of RM to wait until yesterday to place their first bid for de Gea. Pleased it's blown up in their face, lost at their own game
