FIFA released a list of 15 names up for the 2017 Best Goalkeeper award, which was eventually claimed by Gianluigi Buffon with 42.42 per cent of the votes, while Manuel Neuer settled for second place with 32.32 per cent.
Eight goalkeepers appeared on the list having received a portion of the votes, while seven names made up joint-ninth on zero per cent. Despite yet another excellent season between the sticks for Manchester United, David De Gea somewhat inexplicably failed to feature.
Journalists, and national team coaches and captains around the world voted for Keylor Navas (10.10), Thibaut Courtois (9.09), Hugo Lloris (3.03), Jan Oblak (2.02), Ter Stegen (1.01) and Allison (0.01), as well as the aforementioned Buffon and Neuer.
De Gea's name was completely absent from the list, with the likes of Claudio Bravo making the top 15 also with 0 per cent of the votes. Several Red Devils took to Twitter to voice their concerns.
