Zidane reaches 200 as he ushers in a new golden age at Madrid

Zinedine Zidane was an icon when he played for Real Madrid, and he is now starting to become an icon on the touchline.
The Frenchman took the reins at the club's second team, Real Madrid Castilla, on August 24, 2014. He lost his first game in charge, at the hands of Atletico Madrid's second team, but life is considerably different for him four years down the line. Madrid lifted the Champions League just months after 'Zizou' made the step up to coach the first team, and he is now one game away from making it to a third consecutive final in the tournament.
Since Di Stefano brought five European Cups to Madrid, nobody has achieved such a feat. Zidane, who is sometimes the target of criticism, has won the affection of the dressing room and the fans with the five trophies that he secured in 2017.
Zidane himself isn't blowing his own trumpet quite yet, though. "I have been here two and a half years," he said recently. "We can't talk about Zidane's Real Madrid, there are coaches who have been here a long time and done a lot of things."
"Although things are comfortable at the moment, and I like what we are doing, we are going to wait a bit. Now is the time to act. We aren't doing badly but we have to persevere."
With a win over Leganes, Zidane brought up his 200th game as Real Madrid manager, an impressive total, but the French legend is focused on the present, and has his eyes set on the Champions League final in Kiev.
