"We shouldn't say the double isn't possible, we're top of La Liga"

In his first season at Barcelona, Robert Lewandowski is performing very well on the pitch. He has adapted brilliantly both on and off the pitch. He is now an idol for Barcelona fans who pin their hopes on the Polish forward.

The 34 year-old spoke to 'Mundo Deportivo' in an extensive interview which covered several Barcelona topics. One of the main ones was the Champions League, in which Xavi Hernandez's side were once again eliminated in the group stages.

"In the Champions League, we didn't know how to win or how to play to win, but in La Liga we've done very well. We've got very young players. The experiences we've had in recent months will make them better for next season and what remains of this one. And yes, sometimes you must know how to play to win, simply, what you should do in order to win. We've done that several times in La Liga," Lewandowski began.

The Pole was also asked about the possibility of winning La Liga and the Europa League. "We must think about it, of course. It's a great and difficult challenge and we must face it without saying we don't have a chance. We do have a chance because we're top of La Liga. It might be too early to say that in the Europa League though. Firstly, we have to think about Man Utd, but in La Liga, we have to focus on every game both at the Camp Nou and away from home. If we keep recording victories, we'll be closer and closer to winning the league."

Suspension was unfair in Lewandowski's view

Another of the topics Lewandowski talked about was the three match ban he must serve after the decision made by the Spanish Sports Court (TAD) following Barca's appeal. For the number 9, it is an unfair decision. 

"I don't understand it because I didn't say anything to the referee. I didn't say anything to the coach, Xavi. And for me, it doesn't mean anything bad, anything ugly. I don't understand why I got for a three game ban for this, to be honest. I don't deserve it," he complained.

He was then asked about referee Gil Manzano: "The red card was correct because it was a foul. I'd understand a one game ban, that would be right. But suspending me (for two more games) for what I did afterwards, no. I didn't say anything. I spoke to Xavi and Carlos (Naval), our delegate, who was next to the fourth official. We had spoken about it one or two weeks earlier. There was a story behind it and I don't understand the reason for the ban. It's not fair."

Lastly, when informed about the 30 goals Romario scored in his first season at the Camp Nou, he set that same figure as a target for himself as well. Up to now, he has scored 17 goals in all competitions. "Scoring 30 goals in my first season would be very good. Of course, it's something which could happen.

"Now I'll have three games less, but I'm also going to be more fresh. I don't normally have so much time to prepare or do extra sessions because there are so many matches. Now I can prepare myself for the rest of the season," Lewandowski concluded.
