In an article posted on their website, Vitoria Guimaraes announced that their shareholders approved Egyptian multi-millionaire Nassef Sawiris and American Wesley Edens to enter their board, who are responsible for professional football.
The association 'V Sports', who also own Aston Villa, and the Portuguese side announced in February that the company would adquire 46% of their shares, worth around €5.5 million. What's more, investements of around €2 million in infrastructures are also expected.
Before the deal is definite, Vitoria Guimaraes asked for their members' backing, who approved the partnership. Now was the turn for the actual shareholders.
The Villa owners' infiltration of the Portuguese side, who are currently sixth in the top flight, represents a new type of model in Portuguese football, who have been normally quite against this type of funding.
