One of the doubts that Valverde has for the first leg against Liverpool is whether or not to count on Arturo Vidal. Everything depends on the kind of Barcelona Valverde will put forward, as his team is more compact with the presence of the Chilean star, although Vidal himself has already confirmed he might not be in the line-up through social media.
In the starting line-up or not, the midfielder faces his fourth semi-final in the last five years. He reached it with Juventus and Bayern Munich, now it's his turn with Barcelona. Ahead of him is a great challenge, and one that has almost become an obsession: to win a Champions League.
Because even though he has been close on several occasions, Vidal doesn't know what it's like to actually win the coveted title. He only reached a final and, curiously, he lost it to his current team, a Barcelona that ended up winning a treble that season, under Luis Enrique.
After that setback, the Chilean went to Pep Guardiola's Bayern, where he got his fair share of disappointments. In the next edition of the tournament, Atletico pulled the German giants out of the final.
He also bit the dust with Madrid, as happened in the 2016-17, in the quarterfinals, and last season, already in the semifinals. However, the previous year he could not play because of a knee injury.
