Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde opened up at an Uruguayan national team press conference and revealed that he was on trial with Arsenal but was turned down by the London club. He also spoke about his relationship with Alexis Sanchez.

Federico Valverde is currently one of the best midfielders in Europe. He joined the Real Madrid academy in the 2016/17 season but his career could have been very different.

The Uruguay international revealed at a press conference that he was on trial with Arsenal before joining the La Liga outfit. However, former manager Arsene Wenger turned down the chance to secure his services. As a result, he was signed by the Spanish giants to play in their academy.

Moreover, the Real Madrid midfielder spoke about his relationship with Alexis Sanchez, who currently plays for Inter Milan.

"I have always been grateful to him. When I went to train at Arsenal, Alexis was there and he was one of the few who came up to help me. I will always be grateful to him because, being a nobody, I was well-received by him. As a footballer, he is an incredible player," he told reporters.
