United want Gakpo until 2028 and it could be cheaper than expected

Cody Gakpo is making a name for himself at the World Cup, where he has got three goals in three games. It has already happened that, in previous World Cups, budding young talent has been snapped up for the future, and this could be the case and end up in a multi-million-pound move for the Dutchman. According to 'De Telegraaf', Manchester United plan to get him in until 2028.

What is more, United could get him for around £25 million instead of just over £40 million, which was his initial price. This is because his current club PSV are going through a rough financial patch, which means they may be open to accepting a lower price for their star to save their books. The Red Devils, if they make the most of this, will get one of the bargains of the next transfer window.

What is certain is that they will have to negotiate for him, as he is currently tied down until 2026. The fact that the board are so keen to get him makes sense, as, at the end of the day, he trained in their academy, where he made his way up from the U19 side to the reserves, before he moved to the Eredivisie. Now, he is one of the main stars of that league, which is why he has arrived in Qatar in form.

Gakpo, with this situation in mind, should be aware that he will get a lot of offers ahead of next season. Because that is the reality, he will have to decide if he wants to join Erik ten Hag's project, where he could well end up replacing Cristiano Ronaldo, or whether he would prefer to wait and see if another offer comes in which takes his fancy. Being Old Trafford's main man, however, is a very tempting prospective.
