Former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has been banned from participating in any domestic football matches (including friendlies) for six weeks – four of which are suspended until August 31 2020 – and fined £75,000 for breaching the Football Association's (FA) betting regulations.
The Football Association says it will appeal against the dismissal by an independent regulatory commission of various charges alleging he passed on inside information over a potential transfer in January 2018.
Only two of the eleven charges against the 29-year-old went through.
The commission found two charges were proved - that the former Manchester City and Chelsea forward, who scored eight times in 26 appearances for England, had instructed his brother Leon to bet on a possible move to Spanish side Sevilla FC, therefore ilegally providing confidential information to a family member for profit.
