Romanian referee Istvan Kovacs to referee Champions League final

Romanian referee Istvan Kovacs will officiate the Champions League final between PSG and Inter Milan at the Munich Arena on Saturday 31 May (21.00), with Dutch referee Dennis Johan Higler on VAR duty.
UEFA confirmed on Monday the refereeing team to be led by Kovacs, who will be contesting his third UEFA club competition final following his appointment for the 2024 Europa League final in Dublin between Atalanta and Bayer Leverkusen, which the Italian club won, and the 2022 Conference League final between Roma and Feyenoord in Tirana, which ended with the title going to Roma.
Istvan Kovacs is 40 years old, has been an international since 2010 and has refereed seven Champions League matches this season, including the round of 16 second leg between Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain (0-1), which PSG won on penalties.
The refereeing team will be completed by Romanian referees Mihai Marica and Ferencz Tunyogi, with Portugal's Joao Pedro Silva Pinheiro as fourth official.
The VAR assistant will be Romanian Catalin Sorin Popa and the support assistant will be Dutchman Paulus van Boekel. The reserve assistant will be Portugal's Bruno Miguel Alves Jesus.
