In all negotiations there are very specific roles and entities involved in order to make the process as smooth and easy as possible. Some bring the offers to the table, some wait, some reply and meanwhile links star forming for the eventual signing of a player. However, Barcelona's current endavours to sign Griezmann are a little less common.
There's been no talks of longevity of the contract, or luxurious demands which are common for footballers. Instead, Barcelona is currently focused on cleaning Griezmann's image, particularly after his controversial documentary last year entitled "La Decision".
A year ago, Barcelona fans were thrilled at the thought of Griezmann joining the Catalan club. Many people knew there was an urgent need to reinforce other positions, but the arrival of a player of his stature is always to be celebrated. However, the dramatic turn of events left a strange aftertaste to a large section of fans and members of the squad and club.
The Frenchman had an agreement with Barça, but changed his mind. Nevertheless, that was not the initial reason for Barcelona's frustration and anger. The ways of communicating it, with that documentary that left no one indifferent, was what caused the most confusion and annoyance in Barcelona.
Griezmann decided to stay with the Madrid club but, a year later, the situation has yet again taken a turn. Now, the Barcelona directive is once again trying to sign the Frenchman, which means they are trying to smooth out any tensions and discomfort within the squad and the fans.
According to 'L'Équipe', everything is ready for Griezmann to sign until 2024 for the club. He would reportedly have a salary lowering, with four million euros less than what he was paid in Atletico Madrid with a figure of 17 million euros, but for this to work, his change of image has to bre fruitful.
With the pay cut as the first step, the supporters of his arrival want to convince the most resentful after what they see as a distasteful documentary. Among them are some of the top names in Barcelona such as Laporta and Minguella, who have already expressed their wish to not see the signing happen.
However, the heavyweights in the dressing room will have the final word.
