Quique Sanchez Flores has lost his job as Watford manager following his side's 2-1 defeat at Southampton on Saturday evening.
The Hornets took the lead at Southampton before the home side equalised through Danny Ings despite Djenepo handling in the build-up. The VAR failed to detect it and that led to an apology later on Saturday evening from the Premier League. It is the third time Watford have been sent an apology after mistakes at Newcastle and Tottenham. The one at St James Park, ended up costing Javi Gracia's manager as well and Watford have lost up to seven points due to officiating errors in those matches.
Sanchez Flores is the second manager to be sacked by the club this term after fellow Spaniard Javi Gracia was also dismissed back in September. In his second spell in charge, the former Atletico Madrid coach got just two wins and four draws from his 12 matches in charge and Watford will now have to look for a replacement.
"Quique is a man of great integrity and it was clear how much he wanted to have a positive impact, but ultimately results have dictated our decision," Scott Duxburg, the Watford chairman and CEO said to explain the decision.
Watford are bottom with just eight points from 14 games, six points from safety and travel to Leicester on Wednesday evening.
