25 days. That is the amount of time Jorge Almiron lasted as Elche manager, in his second spell at Elche. This Monday, after another defeat, he has decided to resign.
"Elche announces that Jorge Almiron has decided to take a step to one side as coach of the first team. The club fully appreciates his work during his second spell in which he took, with great professionalism, the responsibility of coaching the first team in a difficult moment," Elche said in a statement.
At the moment, Sergio Mantecon, the club's technical secretary, will take charge of the team together with the rest of his coaching staff. Elche play their final La Liga game this Tuesday before the World Cup break.
Mantecon, who played for Elche in the past decade, had the chance to lead the team against Osasuna in Pamplona (1-1) before the arrival of Francisco Rodriguez to the bench.
Almiron arrived on 12th October to replace Francisco, who had been dismissed because of Elche's poor results this season.
In fact, Elche are bottom of La Liga with just four points out of a possible 39. They have yet to win this season and have four draws plus nine losses.
Almiron took charge of five Elche games in which he managed to earn two draws, away to Valencia and Espanyol, and three defeats (home to Real Madrid and Getafe and away to Valladolid at the weekend).
