Croatia goalkeeper Danijel Subasic has revealed the crucial advice Luka Modric gave to him before he saved Sergio Ramos’ penalty.
Spain took an early lead through Alvaro Morata, but after Nikola Kalinic's equaliser, the reigning European champions were gifted with a glorious opportunity, after David Silva was brought down in the Croatian penalty area.
Prior to the penalty being taken, Luka Modric was seen passing a message to Darijo Srna, who then spoke to Subasic before he saved Ramos’ effort.
“Penalties are a lottery,” said Subasic. “The guy from Czech Republic [Tomas Necid] smashed the ball well, this time I waited a little and made good save.
“Luka Modric send a message through Srna to wait for Ramos and that he will shoot to my right side. And that’s what happened.”
Croatian went on to win the game, with Ivan Perisic finding a late winner, meaning that Croatia topped Group D ahead of Vincente Del Bosque's side.
Was Modric a crucial player in the game, despite not playing a single minute?
