Despite French newspaper L'Equipe indicating on Tuesday that Olympique Lyon have rejected an offer from Real Madrid for Mendy, an agreement is seemingly close.
Real are going to be heavily active in the summer window, and are set to reinforce their defence with the signing of young French defender last month. They have been denied by Lyon on this occasion, but the general feeling is positive that a deal can be achieved.
According to Marca, Real Madrid and the French outfit are in regular contact regarding a deal for Mendy, and although they are currently some way off a deal, they could become much closer very quickly.
Lyon would like 50 million for their star defender, whilst Real Madrid have offered 35 million euros. It seems that it is only a matter of time before Mendy signs for the Spanish giants this summer.
The 23 year old defender, who was a key part of the Ligue 1 side, even scoring 3 goals and getting 2 assists this season, is one of the players on Zinedine Zidane's shortlist for next season.
According to Marca, the French manager could have his compatriot in his squad very soon.
