Marc Guehi's move to Liverpool collapses at the last minute

Marc Guehi's transfer to Liverpool, which seemed a done deal in the final hours of the window, collapsed after Crystal Palace failed to finalise the signing of Igor Julio, who is now set to join West Ham.
The 25-year-old England international had reportedly agreed personal terms with the Anfield club and completed a medical in London, with the transfer valued at £35 million (around €41 million), including a 10% sell-on clause and a five-year contract.
However, Palace decided to pull the plug on the deal after failing to secure the signature of Igor Julio, their primary target, who opted for a move to West Ham instead.
The London club did sign young centre-back Jaydee Canvot from Toulouse, but they wanted two reinforcements before authorising their captain's departure.
Guehi, an England international and a key player for Oliver Glasner, sees his contract at Selhurst Park expire in June 2026 and has already informed the board of his intention not to renew.
Therefore, barring a move in January, he is likely to be available on a free transfer next summer, which would facilitate a free transfer to Liverpool, a club with whom he already has advanced personal terms.
The defender, who joined Palace in 2021 from Chelsea, lifted the FA Cup as captain last season and has played every minute this season, also scoring in the recent 3-0 win against Aston Villa.
