Madrid offer Varane seven million a year, but he wants twelve

Five million euros separate Varane from extending his stay with Real Madrid. The Frenchman's contract expires in 2022 and the club's directive would rather him leave this summer and get a significant fee, rather than waiting a year when he woud depart on a free transfer. From this point his future will be decided - he either extends his contract or is sold this summer.
'Mundo Deportivo' details that the the club have offered him a salary of seven million euros a year. He wants twelve, however, meaning an agreement is yet to be reached between both parties. All the while, Manchester United are waiting in the wings with a tempting offer that would definitely satisfy the requests of the centre-back.
It's worth remembering that those at Madrid have spent a while formulating austerity measues in order to safeguard their delicate economic situation. It is for this reason that Sergio Ramos left on a free to PSG instead of starting a new campaign under the direction of Carlo Ancelotti. It would have been too much of a hefty investment to keep him at the club.
And the situation is a similar one with Varane, who has been with the club since 2011. His status and wages go accordingly, meaning the club will have to fork out a significant amount if they don't want to see another star player leave them this summer. That is easier said than done though, given the current economic crisis imposed by the pandemic.
