Some players can mark an era in a team. That is the case of Kroos and Modric, two players who have been part of one of the most glorious periods in Real Madrid's history. A decade in which they have won titles of all colours, the most important being the Champions League -4 for the German (he has one with Bayern) and 5 for the Croatian-.
As fate would have it, they have added La Liga to their trophy cabinet this season, with the Champions League final still to come. Both are ready for the end of a season that could be their last in Madrid. No one can get used to the idea that the two will leave this summer, but it is a very real possibility.
As reported by 'SER', Kroos and Modric are now more out of the team than in for next season. In the case of the German, the midfielder was initially very clear that he was going to continue for another year, but it seems that he could have changed his mind. As for the Balkan, who has been less prominent than ever, his departure is taken for granted although he has a pending conversation with Florentino Perez.
The two form a legendary duo in Real Madrid's history. The first to arrive was Modric, who did so for the 2012-13 season. The 2023-24 is his 12th season in white and over the years he has won a total of 25 titles, the same as Nacho, Benzema and Marcelo.
Kroos is a step behind, with 22 trophies in his trophy cabinet as a 'Merengue' player. The German arrived later, in 2014-15, and has managed to make his mark at the Bernabeu after 10 uninterrupted seasons in a row. Throughout this season he has not wanted to take anything for granted about his future, but it is not surprising that the midfielder wants to finish his career on a high.
We are in a decisive few weeks because two of the most important pieces in Madrid's recent history could be leaving. The moment of farewell may or may not be near, because football, like life, takes many twists and turns. Casemiro, with whom they formed a legendary trident in the 'Merengue' midfield, left 2 years ago after winning his 5th Champions League. Will the same happen with Kroos and Modric? Or will only one of them leave?
