Kranevitter undergoes ankle surgery and will be out for at least three months

River Plate sources confirmed to 'EFE' that Matias Kranevitter underwent ankle surgery after returning to River Plate following spells with Spanish clubs Atletico Madrid and Sevilla, Russian club Zenit and Mexican club Monterrey.
Although the Argentinian club has not yet issued an official medical report, several media following the current affairs of the team coached by former footballer Martin Demichelis reported that the player had a fractured fibula and torn ligaments in his right ankle.
Initially, the club's medical staff had diagnosed a fractured ankle and recommended surgery. In good spirits prior to the operation and despite the fact that he will probably be out of action for several months, the midfielder himself had written this message on his social networks: "A few bone screws and we'll be back".
Kranevitter was injured on 22nd December when River Plate lost on penalties to Chilean side Union La Calera in the 'Millonario' side's first pre-season match, which marked Demichelis' debut as Marcelo Gallardo's replacement, who ended his eight-and-a-half-year tenure at the club.
"Unfortunately, it's a football thing. He came with enormous enthusiasm and a lot of energy. Now, we wish him the best of luck and a good recovery," said Demichelis.
