Jorginho 'definitely' out for Madrid clash as Arsenal fear season-ending injury: reports

The Italy international was one of Mikel Arteta's five changes for Brentford's visit to the Emirates, which was sandwiched between Arsenal's Champions League quarter-final tie against Real Madrid, but was forced off the pitch due to a chest injury in the closing moments of the 1-1 draw.

Arteta revealed post-match that Jorginho struggled to breathe properly, as he left the Gunners down to ten men in the remaining ten minutes of the game. "He said he could not breathe properly, so it might be to do with one of the ribs. It is something significant, I think," the Spaniard told reporters.

And with just over two days to go until the second leg against 'Los Blancos' at the Santiago Bernabeu, it is understood that the Brazil-born player is 'definitely' ruled out for the trip to the Spanish capital on Wednesday, according to a report from 'The Mirror'.

The same source understands that medical scans carried out on Jorginho have revealed that he will be sidelined over the next few weeks. With the Premier League campaign concluded in six matchdays' time, the 33-year-old risks missing the remainder of the campaign.

Should recovery timings be delayed, Saturday's draw with Brentford could be Jorginho's final game as an Arsenal player, with his contract expiring in June, and reports informing that he is closing in on agreeing terms with Brazilian side Flamengo.

Thomas Partey could also be missing against Real Madrid after Arteta said the ex-Atletico man 'felt something' against Brentford. Arsenal will be hoping to see at least one of their midfielder return to the fold as they visit the 15-time Champions League winners holding a 3-0 advantage in the tie.
