Florian Wirtz is only 17 years old, but he already dreams of wearing the Barcelona shirt. The young German player from Bayer Leverkusen acknowledged this in a statement to the 'Sport Bild' newspaper.
The young German star dreams of a successful career with the club: "When I was a child, I always wanted to play for Barcelona. That hasn't changed, but I still have some time until I get there".
These words come just after he renewed his contract with Leverkusen until June 2023, a club with which he has already celebrated six goals in 28 official matches. So far this season, he has gotten six assists and scored five goals in 19 games.
Figures that have aroused the interest of various European clubs, although Wirtz, for the moment, only has eyes for his Bayer. Furthermore, the German U-21 international does not consider his participation in this summer's European Championship impossible: "I'm not sure I can let that dream come true yet. But the last few months have shown me that you can't plan much.
As for his future as a professional player, Wirtz did not hesitate to acknowledge that he hopes to follow in the footsteps of Kai Havertz, who left Leverkusen at the end of last season to join Chelsea.
"It's an incentive for me to try to be better than Kai. I always want to be the best and I hate to lose. In training, I copied from him how he acts in front of goal and how he plays in spaces," added the German playmaker.
